The Old South Cushing Meeting House

Nestled among spruce trees on Salt Pond Road in Cushing is the former South Cushing Meeting House. Now owned by the Cushing Historical Society, the non-denominational 1854 structure has served its community for nearly 150 years.

It's easy to imagine the community gathering, arriving on foot and by horse drawn carriage. Abundant sunlight streams through the great windows, and evenings are illuminated by the soft glow of an oil lamp chandelier.

Now known as the "Old South Cushing Meeting House", it is a gathering place where the Cushing Historical Society conducts an Annual Worship Service in August, honoring the request of the former congregation, and an Annual Harvest Festival celebration in October. The old Meeting House, now handicapped accessible, continues to provide a serene setting for weddings, christenings, poetry and play readings, concerts, and family get togethers.

The Cushing Historical Society maintains this lovely structure through the generous donations of its members and friends, and from those who reserve it for their celebrations.

The Cushing Historical Society is a registered 501c(3) non-profit institution with the United States Internal Revenue Service. All donations are tax deductible in accordance with the law.

"This serene and spiritual place has been here since 1854. We are grateful to those who created it then, and who keep re-creating it now."
